The results for our first survey commissioned by Jose Rodriguez on behalf of the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) are available and we're excited to share key highlights that reveal donation behaviour, specifically donor motivations, attitudes and barriers to giving.

The market research study has reaffirmed some of our beliefs and unveiled a series of opportunities that will help us to ensure we keep providing new pathways to people in need and opening doors to brighter futures.

Values, purpose and reputation is key to our success
In general, Australians are more likely to donate to a charity if their personal values are strongly aligned with the charity purpose and most importantly if they genuinely trust the charity’s purpose effectiveness when tackling a community issue.

Meeting your expectations
We are pleased that our values and mission strongly align with what survey participants deem important. For instance:

  1. Our innovative home ownership pathway fosters empowered communities in which all Australians have equal access to opportunity, thereby making Australia a better place to live.

  2. We are highly regarded with a highly-skilled Board and over 50 supporter organisations.

  3. Our unique donation experience means that 100% of donations go directly towards helping community housing tenants (we don't use donations to cover admin expenses). Further, our multiplier effect for ending poverty means that a single donation is reused time and again to help many different beneficiaries over the years.

Awareness
Importantly, while only 10% of respondents identified as having lived in affordable housing themselves, almost 50% reported knowing someone who lives in social or affordable housing. This demonstrates strong community awareness and personal experiences that can further motivate giving towards housing solutions for vulnerable families.
