Head Start Homes welcomes the Government's low deposit scheme for single parents under a new housing program announced as the new Family Home Guarantee.

Under this scheme, the Government will provide a guarantee of 18 per cent of the purchase price for single parents with dependent children, with the scheme available to 10,000 people over four years.

As we await further details of the scheme, we will work with our banking partners so that our single mum and dad clients can access the scheme.

In the meantime, we will continue assisting our clients to get home loan ready and purchase the right home via our empowerment services. This includes helping our clients with their savings plans, getting their credit checks and being supported by a free property coach.

Our empowerment services are essential to overcome the "knowledge barrier" faced by our clients.

Stephen Woodlands Head Start Homes Founder and Managing Director, said it is vital their clients are supported for the whole journey, from learning how to save to understanding what it means to be a homeowner.

"Normally you learn to buy a home from your parents. If your parents have never done it before, then you're much more likely to be left behind," he said.

"We've found that without our empowerment services, our clients wouldn't have even aspired to own their own home, let alone start the journey. This is especially the case for clients who have experienced homelessness or trauma in their earlier years.

"Further, with our social housing system in crisis and waiting lists for social housing growing, there is a desperate need for increased government support in this area, particularly in a system that favours existing property owners over low income earners trying to enter the market for the first time.'
