Celebrating Charlene’s 1st Year Anniversary as a Proud Homeowner
We can’t believe that it is already one year since Charlene, our first Home Starter moved into her own home.
We checked in with Charlene to see how becoming a homeowner has changed her and her children’s lives. Charlene said:
“It feels great! Having the stability of a stable home for my kids. Not having the worry and stress about inspections, not having to ask for permission to do things in the house, like put up pictures or get a pet. Also, I am very proud! Proud of myself!!”
Charlene has made several improvements to her home over the past 12 months, including a full internal repaint, new air conditioning installed, full roof restoration and backyard Colourbond fencing completed. She is looking forward to getting solar power installed next month.
When we asked what her kids thought of their home, her three kids said:
“It’s nice I like it a lot."
“It’s lovely, cool, I love it.”
"Feels like home."
Charlene also bought a brand new car recently.
“I have never owned a new car in my life! Buying a home has changed my life. I just want to say thank you to Head Start Homes for this amazing life and journey - I couldn’t have done it without them,” she said.
The average house price in Charlene’s suburb has already increased by 6% in 12 months.
Stephen Woodlands, Founder and Managing Director, said:
“Charlene is an inspiration to us all and we are thrilled to see her flourish upon realising her home ownership dreams. We’re also excited that her home is growing in value because it secures her future and means that another First Nations Family will benefit from the recycling of her Head Start Guarantee earlier than we anticipated."
Head Start Homes extends a special thanks to the Aboriginal Housing Office for providing grant funding to support our NSW pilot and also thanks St.George Bank, Community Housing Limited, Ms Deeds Conveyancing and Flint Property.
