Supporter in the spotlight - Jess Ellam

Jess recently donated her services to Head Start Homes for Adelaide couple Eyasu and Martha - helping source the home according to the specific brief, providing guidance on the purchase price, doing the necessary due diligence and organising a building and pest inspection.

As a buyer’s agent and property coach, Jess Ellam takes the stress out of buying a home for her clients.

At the age of 17, Jess fell into real estate somewhat accidentally when, while doing temporary work as an agency receptionist, her employer spotted her potential and decided to keep her on. She purchased her first investment property the same year.

Now 17 years later, she is a licensed buyer’s advocate, has a Diploma in Property and is currently completing a qualification as a Property Investment Adviser through Property Investment Professionals of Australia (PIPA).

An advocate for young people getting into the property investment market, Jess believes there are a number of barriers that prevent people from getting into the market. Educating the buyer as to what’s required is a key component of Jess’s work.

“Often people are uncomfortable dealing with estate agents and it can be daunting trusting someone who is working for the vendor, not for you as the buyer,” she said.

“Finance can also be an issue and people are nervous about paying for a property that might turn out to be inferior. Navigating the whole process can be pretty overwhelming!”

Giving her expertise to Head Start Homes (HSH) was a “no-brainer” for Jess.

“It’s the Aussie dream to own your own home and HSH is helping people to do just that. For me, what you put out comes back so I’m a big believer in helping people. I’ve been doing this work for 17 years so it’s second nature to me and I could see what a great organisation Head Start Homes was,” she explained.

Jess loves seeing how happy her clients are and feels rewarded by their gratitude when they move into their dream home.

Stephen Woodlands, HSH Founder and Managing Director, said Jess’s expertise was invaluable when it came to securing Eyasu and Martha’s home.

“We know that one of the biggest barriers into home ownership is knowing how to puchase a home. That’s becuase it can be a very complex procses and if your parents have never done it before then you probably don’t even know where to start”

“Thank you Jess! We are so grateful for your efforts in helping Eyasu and Martha find their dream home and secure their future,” he said.
